Tax Holiday Time: Buy & Save This Week On School Supplies

July, 28 2013

Ever since I was a kid, summer has always flown by. Mind you, I loved school, but having free time in the summer was the best! I remember knowing though that when we had to
go try on uniforms or buy school supplies, summer fun was almost over.

Well, it’s that time of year again; time to get ready for school. 45 states, the District of Columbia and Guam are offering a sales tax holiday this year. The other five states (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon) don’t have a state sales tax.

Florida’s Sales Tax Holiday runs from August 2nd through August 4th this year. This means that items like clothing, shoes, accessories and even computers won’t be charged a state or local sales tax. Here are some of the items you can save on:
CLOTHING, SHOES AND ACCESSORIES – $75 or less per item will not be taxed.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES – No tax will be added to items that sell for $15 or less per item.
COMPUTERS AND SOME RELATED ACCESSORIES – Computers or related accessories will be tax free up to $750.
The goal of the tax holiday is for families to save on essentials that students need for school. For more information about this program or ways to save on your child’s education, e-mail or give our DM Accounting team a call. You can also log onto www.myflorida.com/dor for more information.

Enjoy the rest of your summer; hope it has been both fun and productive!
