Have you tossed and turned all night thinking about your taxes? If you own a business, April 18th is the deadline to either file your taxes or file for an extension. In about 9 days, personal tax returns are due. If you haven’t done either yet, don’t panic. Not only can we help you, but the IRS has several programs to help taxpayers who need help filing or who have tried to resolve tax problems, but have gotten nowhere. Here are some of the services offered:
The Taxpayer Advocate Service – This is a free service designed to help taxpayers whose IRS problems are causing a financial hardship or those who believe an IRS procedure isn’t working properly. There’s at least one taxpayer advocate in each state. To find out where your local office is you can look for IRS Publication 1546 about The Taxpayer Advocate Service or call 1-877-777-4778 to find the taxpayer advocate in your state.
VITA Program – The VITA or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program offers free tax help to people who make $52,000 or less and need help in preparing their own tax returns. The service includes free basic income tax return preparation. Most VITA sites are located in community or neighborhood centers, libraries, schools or shopping malls. Use the VITA Locator Tool or call 1-800-906-9887 to find a site near you.
TCE Program – The Tax Counseling for the Elderly program offers free tax help for everyone, but priority is given to people who are 60 years of age or older. The program volunteers specialize in questions about pensions and retirement issues. TCE Program volunteers can help with simple tax returns. Visit the AARP Foundation’s Tax Aide Program to locate a TCE site near you.
If you still need help with your taxes or bookkeeping, give us a calll or send me an e-mail. We are expert bookkeepers who happen to be accountants, so we know the intricacies of the complicated tax code. You can also contact one of my favorite experts, tax attorney Steven Klitzner at help@floridataxsolvers.com if you have a problem with the IRS.
So remember, doing nothing is BAD. Take ACTION today. So, make sure you file your taxes or at least file for an extension today.
