Raise your hand if you’ve ever asked a friend or family member for their recommendation on a service provider. Keep your hand up if you’ve asked for recommendations from people who are in the same social media group as you—such as a neighborhood, networking, or parenting group. I’m going to bet all of you have done that, too.
And that’s the point—we have all asked for and given referrals. Referrals should be a high priority for your new customer acquisition strategy, as it is for Brigade.
The power of referrals
Memorable advertising is effective for brand recognition. However, all of us want to be able to trust our service providers and feel confident in our decision to use them. That’s where referrals come in.
Let’s say I ask you–a family member, friend or colleague–about a car mechanic, but I don’t know the shop you use. They aren’t big on advertising, they don’t offer Groupons, and I wouldn’t recognize their logo. On the other hand, you’re impressed with their help, the speed of the work, and the service you get from them.
Will I call your mechanic even though I don’t know them? You bet!
The statistics support the power of online referrals
Online referrals are hugely important to your business, and mine. It’s word-of-mouth, increased by the reach of our online connections.
Just how important? Consider these facts:
- 64% of consumers will check Google reviews before visiting a business website.
- 2.2 billion users on Facebook rely on product and service recommendations from their connections.
When existing customers and clients say a few words about your business on these sites, your positive online reputation will help generate a steady flow of new customers.
