Social Media, Apps and Your Taxes

March, 6 2016

Are you a business owner? Are you starting to feel the stress of turning in your 2015 tax return? If you haven’t filed yet, then you should. As I mentioned last week, we’re a little more than a week away from the March 15th corporate tax-filing deadline. That means you should file your taxes and pay up by that date or ask for an extension.
I want to share with you some interesting apps and tips to help you file your tax return.

Last week, we also discussed ways to make sure your tax preparer is legit. This week, I want to share with you some interesting apps and tips to help you file your tax return. Of course, we think our team at Brigade Bookkeeping is better than any application, but if you have no choice, then here are some interesting social media, apps and tips to file your 2015 taxes:

  • IRS2GO APP – This app isn’t new, but if you’ve never used it, it’s pretty handy. This app lets taxpayers check on the status of their tax refund and gives people a quick way of getting easy-to-understand tax tips. The app is available to both iPhone and Android users.
  • IRS TWEETS – So you’re following 1,000 people already, why not add one more to your Twitter Feed? @IRSnews is the official Twitter feed of the government agency. The IRS tweets out the latest federal tax news, information for taxpayers, tax law changes and important IRS programs.
  • ELECTRONIC FILING – All taxpayers are able to file their taxes electronically for free. You will need to verify your identity by using your 2014 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or an already created personal identification number (PIN). If you don’t have a pin, you can get a new five-digit PIN on www.IRS.gov or by calling the IRS toll-free line at 1-866-704-7388.
  • FREE FILE – Taxpayers who make $62,000 or less in income are able to apply for “Free File.” Free File is a tax prep software available to low income families or businesses on www.IRS.gov.

Social media, apps and computers have changed the way businesses and individuals file their taxes. It has made our world a little easier, but also more susceptible to fraud. So be safe when you’re on-line.

If you have any questions about your corporate tax returns, don’t hesitate to contact the Brigade Bookkeeping team. We love to file tax returns and we always do it on time and accurately.

Happy Tax Filing Season!
